Partial Hospitalization Program for Mental Health

Transform Your Mental Health with Our Fort Lauderdale Partial Hospitalization Program

A Partial Hospitalization Program, or mental health PHP is an outpatient program type that offers the most intensive care outside of inpatient treatment. Partial Hospitalization can sound like a bit of a misnomer. There are no hospitals involved. Essentially in a PHP for mental health a client spends about 6 hours a day in therapy and counseling at the treatment center. PHP treatment entails a full day of treatment, 5 days a week.

However, unlike inpatient treatment, at the end of the day, clients do not sleep at the medical facility or remain there 24/7. Instead, they are able to return to a supportive living environment in the evening, or even home, in some cases if they or their family are local to Destination Hope and it is thought to be in the clients’ best interest by clinical staff. These programs provide a supportive treatment environment without completely disrupting the patient’s life.

Most PHPs are considered full-time mental health treatment programs that require dedication and commitment to improving your mental health. Often a client will begin their mental health treatment in an inpatient setting and progress to a partial hospitalization program for mental health only after making sufficient progress. After the PHP for mental health, their may elect to progress to a mental health IOP for continued part-time treatment that allows them enough schedule flexibility to return to family responsibilities, or part-time school or work.

What Happens At Partial Hospitalization?

Every PHP is a little different. Scheduling and treatment protocols will vary from one treatment facility to the next, but most will use a combination of therapies and medication management.

Some may offer a combination of the following:

Lunch is usually included as you will be there for an average of six hours a day, seven days a week.

Partial Hospitalization Programs: Who Should Enroll?

PHP is the ideal situation for anyone transitioning out of an inpatient program and needing to maintain independence while continuing their mental health treatment plan. In some cases a person may begin at the mental health PHP level of care if their need for treatment isn’t as acute. For example, someone who is medication compliant and hasn’t experience any sort of crisis, but has sufficient cause for concern to put everyday life on pause for a moment to focus on their mental health.

Partial hospitalization programs may also be a good option for anyone looking for more support than what’s available at standard outpatient programs. Sometimes people ‘plateau’ or hit obstacles to progress in their outpatient therapy or counseling and just feel stuck. A mental health partial hospitalization program can provide the additional support needed to allow their progress and healing to continue.

How Long Does Partial Hospitalization Last?

PHP are mainly designed as a short-term mental health treatment that aims to improve your condition enough to enter a lower-intensity outpatient program such as intensive outpatient treatment.

The exact length of a PHP will depend on the individual’s condition, as everyone’s recovery journey is different. Most people can transition out of partial hospitalization in two to three weeks.
