Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) are similar to inpatient programs in treatment, procedures, and methods. However, clients in partial hospitalization programs sleep at home each night and do not spend all of their time at the program facility. These types of programs offer a more flexible schedule and give participants a chance to continue living at home, working, or going to school while slowly but steadily rebuilding their personal life. Clients spend a specified amount of time each day at the facility for treatment, typically more than they spend in the outside world, for the duration of the program.
Partial hospitalization treatment is one of the most common forms of treatment and often serves as a starting place for people who are stable but need professional support in their recovery. Sometimes a client’s partial hospitalization treatment will be followed by outpatient treatment or aftercare services to help ease the transition from treatment to home life.
