Happy Thanksgiving from Women’s Drug Rehab

Table of Contents

Women’s drug rehab wishes you a very happy, very safe and sober Thanksgiving 2013. Remember that addiction takes no time off so remain strong in your programs to get through the holiday season successfully and safely.

Thanksgiving Challenges

Thanksgiving, along with other major holidays, presents a challenging situation for clients in recovery. Though the holiday may certainly be enjoyable and celebratory, many triggers are presented a bit more prominently at this time of year. One such trigger is the presence of high-risk situations, such as holiday family dinners and holiday parties.

Women’s Drug Rehab Program Tools for Thanksgiving

Have an enjoyable and safe Thanksgiving 2013 by keeping your women’s drug rehab program in mind.

Support
Keep your strongest supporters of your support system (specific family members, sponsors, dear friends, other loved ones) close to you during the holiday. Be open and honest about how the holidays present new challenges for your recovery and how you can do much better in this time with their support. Attend support group meetings to stay in touch with the program and to communicate with other clients. This may help give you strength in knowing you aren’t alone and that you too can get through the holiday season successfully. Keep in touch with your sponsor as well, and voice any concerns or issues you may be experiencing around the holiday.

Women’s Drug Rehab Education
Go over the potential signs of relapse and share them with a close member of your support group as a refresher for both of you. Be honest and assess if you are showing signs that you may need a bit more assistance through this time due to certain habits or behaviors becoming apparent.

Family Dynamics Awareness
This family holiday can be made stressful by poor family dynamics. Remember what you learned at women’s drug rehab in one-on-one therapy sessions as well as family therapy sessions that allow you to better interact with your family – even for any members who were not in family therapy due to distance, refusal, et al.

Lifestyle Considerations
Prepare for the holidays by taking care of your body and mind. Eat well, exercise, rest well and maintain a clean and productive living environment. Addiction thrives on an environment where care for the self has been forgotten. Consider adding more lifestyle practices to your routine around the holidays for extra help with stress management such as yoga, meditation, breathing exercises or journaling.
