5 Ways to Fail Drug Rehabilitation Program

Table of Contents

Drug rehabilitation program participants do not automatically reach successful recovery from substance abuse and addiction upon attending the program. In order to be successful you have to want to recover and put in the necessary hard work and dedication to achieving results. Here are five ways clients are able to fail at the drug rehabilitation program.

1. Have a Bad Attitude.

A bad attitude gets you nowhere in a drug rehabilitation program. You aren’t able to benefit from the program offerings and treatment methods if you don’t open yourself up with a friendly and positive attitude. A bad attitude can alienate you from your program peers and make it difficult for the members of staff to assist you on your recovery journey.

2. Ignore the Stories and Experiences of Others.

Drug rehabilitation program group therapy and support group meetings have been proven to be effective. You cannot get the most from these experiences when you make the decision to simply ignore what others have to say about their own experiences with substance abuse and addiction. The beauty of interacting with your peers is that you never know when you may hear about an experience that truly hits home and creates a significant impact on your life. Your peers also have much to gain from paying attention to what you have to say.

3. Do Not Be Present in Sessions.

Going to psychotherapy sessions but ignoring what others have to say or not fully participating is not an effective way of achieving recovery. You don’t stand to benefit and progress in your treatment unless you interact and commit to the work required.

4. Avoid Connecting with Others in Your Drug Rehabilitation Program.

Trying to get through the treatment program by only working on your own means you will be missing out on some important aspects of the most tried-and-true treatment processes. You don’t have to try to make a new best friend but it’s important to connect with others so you can provide one another with support and so you may learn from one another’s experiences.

5. Take Risks.

Do not take risks in your drug rehabilitation program. Don’t try to obtain substances by any means or try to find any other way to abuse drugs. Do not try to leave the program early or refuse to participate in treatment methods that you don’t like or that you don’t understand how they could be useful.

The treatment methods of your drug rehabilitation program have been proven to be effective at helping clients enter the process of recovery. Arrive to treatment with an open mind and be prepared to participate with your full attention and energy and to work to the best of your ability for the best results!
