Comprehensive Services for Women

Women often face distinct biological and societal hurdles that can accelerate the progression of addiction—a phenomenon known as “telescoping.” Beyond physiology, many women in treatment report histories of trauma, including domestic violence or past abuse, which often fuels substance use as a coping mechanism. Additionally, women frequently carry the primary weight of family responsibilities; the fear of leaving children behind or facing societal stigma can create significant barriers to seeking help. At Destination Hope, we recognize that true healing requires addressing these co-occurring disorders—such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD—alongside the addiction, in an environment where women feel safe to share their experiences without judgment.

Our women’s program features specialized components including trauma-informed CBT sessions led by female therapists, mother-child therapy sessions, and gender-specific life skills training covering topics like healthy relationships and parenting strategies Our program specifically addresses hormonal factors in addiction, pregnancy-related treatment needs, and parenting skills development.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) serves as a cornerstone of our evidence-based approach to dual-diagnosis treatment. This present-focused, goal-oriented modality helps individuals uncover the intricate connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By working collaboratively with our licensed therapists, clients learn to identify the negative “automatic thoughts” and self-destructive patterns that often fuel substance abuse and mental health challenges.

In CBT, patients will develop coping skills and identify triggers that have led to destructive behaviors.

To support long-term stability, the program integrates family reunification and parenting skills training, acknowledging the heavy weight of family responsibilities that often act as a barrier to women seeking help.

Evidence-Based Treatment and Proven Outcomes

Our women-only program utilizes gender-specific treatment modalities designed to foster empowerment and lasting stability. From trauma-informed therapy and dual-diagnosis care to family reunification support and parenting skills training, our approach treats the whole person. We also integrate holistic and recreational therapies, such as mindfulness and expressive arts, to help clients rebuild their self-esteem and emotional resilience.

These specialized efforts lead to measurable success: 92% of our clients report improved relationships, and 83% report a significantly enhanced quality of life after treatment. Our alumni frequently share stories of transformation, moving from the “darkness of addiction” to lives defined by renewed purpose, regained custody of their children, and a strong foundation for lifelong sobriety.

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at Destination Hope acts as a critical bridge between intensive residential care and independent living, offering a “full-time” treatment schedule without 24-hour confinement. Clients typically attend clinical programming for approximately six hours a day, five to seven days a week, at the main treatment center in Fort Lauderdale while residing in supervised community housing located in nearby Deerfield Beach. This structure is designed to provide a “real-world” testing ground; patients spend their days immersed in intensive individual, group, and family therapy—including evidence-based modalities like CBT and DBT—and their evenings practicing autonomy in a supportive peer environment.

Patients at Destination Hope participate in a minimum of 25 hours per week of programming that includes weekly group, individual and family therapy sessions. They will accountability, life skills, how to build self-esteem and recovery management.

Providing Women Unique Treatment Approach

The facility follows a “step-down” structure designed to provide a continuous, seamless transition from stabilization to independence. This journey typically begins with safe, on-site medical detox and progresses to immersive residential (inpatient) care. As clients gain coping skills, they move into a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)—a model Destination Hope helped pioneer—followed by Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and an Extended Care phase. The program is led by a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals, trauma specialists, and nutritionists who maintain a high staff-to-client ratio. Amenities are designed to create a “comforts of home” environment, featuring private rooms, a yoga studio, and a dedicated music room to facilitate holistic healing.

Clinical modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and specialized Trauma Resolution Therapy, complemented by holistic interventions such as art therapy, music therapy, yoga, and meditation. For those seeking a spiritual foundation, the center offers 12-step facilitation and optional Christian-centered tracks.

The program is structured around a “continuum of care” model, allowing clients to transition through levels of intensity based on their individual progress. This structure typically begins with on-site medical detoxification, followed by residential treatment (30–90 days) where clients live in a supportive, monitored environment. As stability increases, patients may step down to a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), which provides intensive day treatment while allowing for more autonomy in the evenings, and eventually to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or standard outpatient care. A signature feature of Destination Hope is its gender-separate programming, which creates safe spaces for men and women to address unique societal and biological challenges—such as parenthood, relationship dynamics, and specialized trauma—facilitated by a multidisciplinary team of licensed clinicians and medical staff.
