About Our Nutrition Program
Here at Destination Hope, we know that no two people are the same therefore their treatment plan, which includes their nutrition plan, is individualized to their needs. Every client meets with our dietitian upon admission and any nutritional and/or dietary concerns are addressed with her and the rest of our medical team and dietary department.
Common topics covered:
- Weight management
- Disordered eating behaviors
- Disease specific meal plans
- Food allergies/intolerances
- Vitamin and Supplement recommendations based on labs values
- Proper hydration
Our dietitian works with each one of our clients starting at admission and continues to follow them all the way through to the IOP level. Clients are welcome to talk with the dietitian on an as needed basis and she will coach them to make healthier lifestyle choices based on their personal goals.
In addition to one-on-one time with our dietitian, part of the Destination Hope experience includes weekly educational groups that reinforce the importance of developing healthy eating behaviors and its importance in the recovery process. Some topics include general healthy eating tips, cooking skills, emotional eating, disordered eating behaviors, self-esteem and body image, weight management, diabetes, heart healthy eating, and living and healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise. It is this education and these skills that the client takes with them when they leave our program. Clients are more conscious of the importance of their relationship with food and its influence on some of their choices.
Lastly, our dietitian and chef work closely together to ensure that our clients eat healthy home cooked meals to ensure a sense of comfort and wellbeing while they are away from their families. Our staff is always willing to attempt to accommodate the nutritional needs of our clients and offer a variety of food options.
