Party for a Purpose

Guardian Behavioral Health Foundation of Fort Lauderdale, Florida will host Party for a Purpose on Wednesday, May 25th, 2016, from 6-9 p.m. at Chima Brazilian Steakhouse on Las Olas Boulevard. Their mission is to raise awareness through education to break the stigma associated with people who suffer from mental health disorders and to give back to those in critical need of treatment.

Guardian Behavioral Health Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization affiliated with Destination Hope and the Sylvia Brafman Mental Health Center. Guardian is dedicated to bridging the gap between individuals living with mental illness and the services and medications they need and deserve. Party for a Purpose launches as part of their overall campaign during May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Community members are welcome to attend for a tax-deductible donation of just $20, which includes complimentary gourmet appetizers, a chance to win raffle gifts totaling over $1,000 in value, live music with samba and Latin hits, an award ceremony honoring Guardian donors and photos taken by media on the green carpet step and repeat.

One in five American adults live with a seriously disabling mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or major depression—all of which are manageable with the right medication and counseling but debilitating if left untreated. Direct costs of mental illness have been estimated at almost $150 billion dollars a year and rising. Half of all mental health dollars in the state of Florida are spent on institutional care.

Benjamin Brafman, CEO of Destination Hope, adds, “Treating individuals in the community by providing them with the financial and clinical support needed for them to thrive long-term is far more cost-effective and humane than short-term incarceration.” From community awareness and professional training to service linkage and financial assistance, Guardian Behavioral Health Foundation provides care where it is most cost-effective and most needed: the community.

Last fall, Guardian held its inaugural Mental Health Symposium with coverage by ABC WPBF. This event drew together over 200 of South Florida’s community leaders, city officials and professionals within this industry to help tackle some of the key issues providers and patients struggle with on a recurring basis. Guardian’s events, including Kick the Stigma! Annual Kickball Tournament, are uniquely designed to create awareness and reduce the stigma of those suffering from mental health disorders.

Party for a Purpose is another great addition to the lineup of events and fundraisers helping those in need around the community.

Tickets are $20 when you register online at www.guardianbehavioral.org and are available for $25 at the door.
